Vidam | Falkland | Johannes Mundinger | LOOK | BLO | Karl Addison | HRVB | Twoone | Rylsee | DXTR | RUL3RS

special guest: Dr. Motte at the turntables

opening reception 27th of June at 8 pm

The exhibition WALL DIALOGUE presents the works of 10 famous graffiti and street artists living in Berlin and one guest artist from Rotterdam.

WALL DIALOGUE is a juxtaposition of some protagonists of this versatile art form. The invited artists are known for their large scale murals and will exhibit works, revealing each ones approach to their mural work. Through this exhibition the visitors will have the chance to catch an insight into this multi-layered scene.

Karl Addison

Produced using a hatch drawing style, my work utilizes fine lines and details to create simultaneously diminutive constructions that, when viewed together, unfold into large-scale illustrative murals- each stroke of color endowing the compositional elements with vibrancy and movement. Most of my work is figurative, and I draw inspiration from the surrounding community and content in the form and expression of my subjects. More recently I have explored the connection of the existing architecture and construction of the physical buildings to the work itself. Natural surfaces and extant flaws, such as inset holes and missing bricks, become desirable parts of the canvas.

BLO

French artist BLO, member of Da Mental Vaporz crew, captures in his works fragments of life, moments of tension and confrontation, different struggles and states of mind. His recent drawings, indoor and outdoor pieces are figurative and inspired by classical context, religious imagery and occult symbolism,
exploring universal themes such as death or the concept of memento mori in a very personal manner, according to his rich and distinct vision rooted in graffiti culture, but also influenced by artists like Egon Schiele or Hans Bellmer. He often outlines or distorts his characters through loose lines, geometrical and abstract patterns. Mostly monochromatic, with meaningful details or a more direct point of view regarding certain issues the artist focuses on, the works of BLO question aspects of society, of human actions and relations, appearance and perception.

RUL3RS

A single line is what it all begins with. A single line turns into an image but can also be the strike that ends it all. Through abstract lining combined with symbolism from the past and the now, I create images. By applying lines to certain backgrounds I am always looking to create a dynamic between the two layers. Sometimes I will work with existing images in which I will have the lines interact with already existing shapes,
other times I'll work with blank pages looking to create a relationship between the lines with and within the frame. Furthermore I strive to create tension through residual space. In case a figure is applied to the whole, I find myself searching for certain symbolism either existing, infused with a twist of my own or more abstract, where I leave it to the audience to form their opinion on its symbolism.

DXTR

DXTRs style emerged from graffiti, even if this label does not fit anymore. His images are figurative; they look dreamy and playful and contain mystical, ironic and provocative elements. DXTR plays with simple and classic shapes, and uses elements of typography and comics. The artist describes his style as "Dead Disney."
DXTR is inspired by artists like Robert Crumb, Ren and Stimpy, Fritz the Cat and by Hip Hop of the 80s and 90s. His focus is currently the large mural.
"I like to travel, meet new people and experience different places and cultures. Painting walls gives me the opportunity to see these kind of places, somehow it's a privilege and I'm very grateful for that. I've been to so many countries I would have never seen without painting walls."

FALKLAND

Falkland travelled in Africa for the last 2 years and painted a lot of murals for the local community. His style is very much influenced by the patterns and colors of the sub saharan environment and animals.

TWOONE

Hiroyasu's work often shows 'animal headed human bodied creatures', he calls this ongoing series "Phycological Portrait" which shows more of the inner character and personality, that exists timelessly and universally, apposed to ones superficial outlook. Hiroyasu is also exploring ideas with his series titled "Metaphysical Landscape" which often features twisted and stylised still-life / landscapes that stimulate the metaphysical stories to the audience.

VIDAM

“Happy” - is one of the best ways to mention Vidam - literally as well. Vidam’s smile is infectious when you speak with him and take a viewing to his work. Rather it is Solo work or with others as Collaborations like “Peachbeach” and “The Weird” - he crushes both. a Clean lines, and smooth calming color schemes makes Vidam’s work stand out. Paired with tiny details in to an illustrated micro-universe. Gravity nearly does not seem to exist in his work. Balance within Vidam’s work with characters that are patterned and detailed
in their subtle shading but reveals little to no facial features. He makes us all smile and wonder, a point well liked and admired.” (Text: Karl Addison)

Johannes Mundinger

Johannes Mundinger paints figurative murals, often with site specific elements, does interactive installations and exhibits galleries and museums."Hidden in forgotten places across the City, Johannes Mundinger‘s artworks are found mainly by accident. Colourful faces, fantastic figures and wall-paintings melted totally into decaying facades, create anxiety in dark urban corners. Corresponding to Graffiti, the style of the Artist is in a constant dialogue with this form of the street art.
Lyrical and painterly finesse of Mundinger‘s works remains in contradition to the roughness and inexactitude of urban art. They are unique compositions." (Petra Wessbecher, Kulturwissenschaftlerin)

LOOK

LOOK is committed to painting and drawing since childhood and started graffiti in 1996. He is founding member of the international acknowledged graffiti-crew THE WEIRD.
THE WEIRD, established in 2011, gathers 10 artists from Germany and Austria. The crew is recognized for their powerful collaborative pop-surrealistic murals, and crazy group shows. The topic of LOOK's recent works is going back to a dream LOOK had as a teenager: Plunging into the fluid ground of the earth he was able to see the blurred world from below. Carrying and being inspired by this vision LOOK felt now encouraged to paint what he saw down there so many years ago. This dream considered as a starting point for the current imagery of the artist is strongly connected to the topics he is dealing with. His murals show a post apocalyptic world, ruled by nature.
