Danielle de Picciotto has just returned from her European tour on which she presented her new album The Hitman’s Heel – a collaboration with Alexander Hacke - and her newly released Berlin-Autobiography “The Beauty of Transgression”.

During this and previous tours the artist started drawing her experiences into a small sketchbook. While documenting her travels she came to thinking about the similarities of art and journals. As she has been curating annual exhibitions in the Neuroritan since the mid nineties, presenting her own work next to artists she admires, she decided to invited a group of internationally known artists to explore this thought in the sense of examining the „here and now“ of a diary and comparing the expression and thoughts of artists to an honest journal of our times, a log about what we are concerned with today. Always on the lookout for interesting, international artists Danielle de Picciotto will be presenting the New York filmmaker Tessa Hughes Freeland, The US multi talent David Yow (Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid), the Berlin painter and sculptor Kai Teichert, the mixed-media artist Kevin E. Taylor from San Francisco and the Canadian, Berlin based artist Paula Bogati.

Paula Bogati

Paula Bogati lives and works in Berlin since 2006.
Bogati’s works are multiple layered compositions of human subjects. She photographs her characters in a mise en scène, and then transfers the photographic images on to canvas using a mixed technique of printpainting.
Her multi-layered work is a contemporary remix of iconographic painting and modern stereotypes.
The original image is altered through the process of multiple layers of print and paint, giving the subject a renewed, ultimate existential presence.

Tessa Hughes-Freeland

Tessa Hughes-Freeland has been making films and writing for 30 years. In 1984 she founded The New York Film Festival Downtown. Her films have screened internationally in museums and galleries including MOMA, MOCA, The Whitney and New Museum. She has collaborated with musicians such as John Zorn, and J.G. Thirwell on live multiple projections, been a juror for numerous festivals, curated extensively, and was President of the Board of directors for the Film-makers Co-operative for three years. She has published articles in numerous books (including NAKED LENS: Beat Cinema, and NO FOCUS: PUNK FILM), Paper Magazine, Filmmaker Magazine, G.Q., Film Threat.

"My film-making is essentially experimental. I utilize different formats and often incorporate found footage and re-photography combined with hand made elements. I consider spontaneity and chance occurrence of equal importance to precision and planning. I change my mind constantly during the production process. In this way I am a medium, creating ‘automatic films’ which in essence make themselves. I am interested in extreme aspects of human nature, as well as the unconscious. I often portray unappealing traits through strong and intense imagery, simultaneously playing with visual clichés through which I hope to express a degree of irony and humour. I have been interested in different representations of sexuality, using mythology as a basis upon which to build and question aspects of ‘femininity’ and ‘masculinity’ while simultaneously exploring a psycho-sexual realm of hope and fear. Recently I have working in the areas of nostalgia, memory and desire using classic Fairy Tales along with a legend of a more modern era, the Western."

Kevin Earl Taylor

Kevin Earl Taylor was born December 28, 1972 in Charleston, SC. In 1995, he received a B.F.A. from The Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited and published throughout the US, as well as internationally. Though primarily an oil painter, he also explores time based art forms such as sound and video. Recently, he created an original work for Playboy Magazine (March 2011) that appeared alongside T.C. Boyle’s short story “A Good Home”. Kevin lives in San Francisco, CA.

Much of that which is assumed to be chaotic and incomprehensible within the human paradigm can be clarified through the observation that we, like all organisms are bound first and foremost by natural law. Over time, civil responsibility has ordered a physical detachment from nature, however a deeper mental architecture remains intact. It is this power play with which we struggle internally. I take interest in formulating a parody, amplifying an analysis, and offering visual depiction of this all at once grotesque, lovely, and hilarious production."

David Yow

Many people who have heard of David Yow know him as the lead singer of seminal ʻ80s punk band, Scratch Acid. Even more know him as the notoriously unhinged madman lyricist for Chicago noise-rockers, the Jesus Lizard. What most people donʼt know about Yow is that his passion for art long preceded the unique spectacle that was his music career. In his pre-punk college years, David completely submerged himself in his painting and drawing, but music soon replaced visual art as creative expression. Decades passed without him putting brush to canvas. Then, in 2010, Yow was asked to do a solo exhibition for a Los Angeles art gallery. The show served as a catalyst for a torrent of intriguing mixed media pieces that include photography, hair, insects, blood, toenails… and even paint. March 2011 marked Davidʼs participation in his first New York City group exhibition. Today, he is honored to have work in DasGeheime Tagebuch in Berlin, and to be joining an international community of artists.
